 This is something that I have a problem to believe.  It took serious
effort from several people to make you understand that dpkg-source
should NOT behave differently whether quilt is installed or not.  This
is not something that I would consider being called "take compatibility
seriously", sorry.

 Also there were a lot of concerns and lengthy discussions from various
people also with respect to your pushing for deprecating source v1 and
the idea to making packages intentionally FTBFS if they don't have a
debian/source/format file.  This does neither fall under my
understanding of "take compatibility seriously".
