installing gcc

pse help me out.
i want to run gcc on colinux and is using backports/sarge. i went to this website (http://backports.org/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=instructions) and made the changes except number 3.
when i type apt-get -t sarge-backports install ?gcc?, it says MODUTILS: DEPENDS: SYSVINIT () 2.71-2 BUT IS NOT INSTALLED - UNMET DEPENDENCIES. How can i now proceed from here?
i want to run a file using gcc.
am so frustrated. whats keeping me from giving up is that i have already spent so much time, and is on the verge of finalising. hope you can read this message early enough.
