Sorry, my bad. You are right, makedev is only one debian revision off. udev 0.93 fixes a problem with path_id going into an infinite loop that's critical for newer hardware such as the Sun X4100 servers. The version on bpo is 0.91. -- Huaqing Zheng Beer and Code Wrangler at Large
