The GPL license does already address the abandonware problem,
by enabling you to fix the software yourself.
Abandonware is not limited to security updates,
it also includes topics like battery replacement.
Any solution to the abandonware problem for consumer products has to be
political, you need a law mandating for how many years repairs and
security updates have to be available.
