FWIW, I tested Cubietruck_plus with u-boot 2016.05 and enabled in u-boot git a week or two ago, but haven't yet uploaded. > Rebuilt the > package after adding one line to the debian/targets file, so I got the > u-boot image. > - compiled the dts file from device-rebasing > - copied the kernel, initrd bootscript from hd-media > - attached serial console. > > Result: after "Starting debian kernel" u-boot message no further output. > Changing to Stretch kernel, the debian installer starts, asks language, > keyboard layout, then starts looking for the iso image, this is where > things goes wrong. Mainline linux is missing drivers for notable hardware for the A83T, such as USB, MMC, and ethernet. There seems to be active work on it in the linux-sunxi community, but it will be a while before it makes it into Debian. If patches land in mainline linux (or maybe linux-next), sometimes the debian kernel maintainers are willing to accept patches backporting to sid or experimental, but generally not from third-party repositories. I'll be keeping an eye on the status in linux mainline, and likely propose updates to the linux packages when it seems more feasible... live well, vagrant
