Are you sure you have initrd support in the kernel? I realize this the
d-i kernel so maybe someone else can answer this question.
To get all of the boot messages, you can pass console=/dev/[a serial
port] and hook up a 2nd computer to view the console messages. That is
if you have a 2nd computer.
