The last roadblock I (and others) ran into when trying to fix d-i CVS up
for cross-building was that depmod has to be run during the build and
doesn't handle modules from alien architectures.  If you can figure this
one out, I suspect the rest of the actual d-i build would be fairly
simple to fix up for cross-building.
