Well that installer would install testing or unstable, both of which
probably have broken stuff at the moment. The stuff below might
actually be perfectly expected on unstable.

If init is running, the kernel found the HD and did boot from it, but
something else is causing trouble.
Not sure what hotplug is trying to do, but it probably shouldn't be.
