I'd have to go with a previous suggestion at this point.
You might consider dumping udev entirely for the time being until
it stabilizes in lieu of a static /dev. While udev and devfs are
both nice ideas and it would be nice to have a /dev with only the
actual hardware attached to your system present as entries, I
rarely, if ever, have problems with a static /dev despite the
absurd overkill of device entries present.
So yeah, wait a bit and try udev (or devfs, if it does in
fact make a comeback) at a later time.
