We've downloaded and burnt the iso for February 14th 2004, sarge
(testing) ia64, from the bittorrent sources - but have been unable to
get the CD-ROM to boot.
To test - we also downloaded the sarge i386 iso, which does boot fine on
our system - but we would ideally like to be running an ia64 based
system (we do numerical computing)
Our system is
Asus k8n-e deluxe
AMD64 CPU (Sempron +3000)
LG DVD-RAM drive
We've noticed that the ia64 iso for disk 1 is missing files in the
/install folder, which the i386 iso does contain (it appears to hold the
boot data for vmlinuz and initrd)
Do we have a bad install disk for ia64, or is there some form of new
booting mechanism on the ia64 iso disks that is causing problems with
our hardware? (Has anyone else encountered similar problems trying to
boot with the sarge ia64 iso disks?)
If the booting process is different on the ia64 disks to the i386 disks
- can anyone offer any advice / information as to what has differed? If
we have a bad boot disk, is it possible to download an earlier iso image
that is known to boot correctly?
Many thanks for any advice / help anyone can offer.
Kind Regards,
Andrew McGhee
