Re: No sound

deb-black:~# alsoconf
Terminating processes: 15998...done.
Unloading sound driver modules...done.
Building card database..

Running update-modules...
Architecture-specific modutils configuration not found, using defaults
Loading driver...
FATAL: Error running install command for snd_via82xx
Setting default volumes...
Saving the mixer setup used for this in /var/lib/alsa/asound.state.
/usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1061: No soundcards found...

Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.

deb-black:~# alsamixer
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such device

Any idea what Ishould do about the fatal error above?

Wel, I have the same motherboard, and here it works perfectly, I use Alsa.

I cannot completly garanty current debian is alright, as I don't use the debian kernel, but a self compiled one. I don't think this is a problem with the kernel or debian though.

What went wrong when you installed Alsa ? note that Alsa might not work if oss is still active (check with lsof if both oss and alsa are loaded). If this isn't the case, try running alsaconf from a console, and follow instructions.

Have fun,

Ernest.
