This could mean it is already loaded, but more probably something went wrong 
during module initialisation

did you maybe disable the sound chip in the BIOS ?

if not, could you do after a clean boot a 

# modprobe snd_via82xx 

on a command line  ?

This should show you if this modules gets loaded at all.
