What does hdparm on those devices say, out of curiousity?  (I just ask
because maybe you aren't running in UDMA mode -- and it will give me
some tweakables to try myself)

Good.  Glad I'm not the only one.

Anyone dared to try Reiser4 on alpha?  Any success or failure stories?
