The "Alpha-buildd"-story is a long and sad one: faure.d.o is down
since the Debian-breakin (quite some while ago), lully.d.o was down
from the last Kernel local root exploit. About three weeks ago Ryan
Murray asked be about aboot, because he wanted fix lully and change
the boot process from a floppy (!) to harddisk (his predecessor fault,
I guess). I answered him and got no reply. After a while without
buildd I asked him to activate the installed, but sleeping, buildd on
escher.d.o[1]. This mail unfortunately ended in Ryans
spam-filter... Anyway, just after I wrote a mail to debian-admin lully
was up again and Ryan wrote me. He said that he wants to keep lully as
pure buildd and escher for porting only. Basically, this is a good
idea: "never change a running system" and escher can spend all it's
cycles for developers coding on it. That would clearly have worked
out... if lully were still running...

At least the entry in http://db.debian.org/machines.cgi?host=lully was
changed, let's hope that they get the kernel-upgrade fixed... or ask
for help soon.... :-|

Cheers
   Thimo

[1] sad sidenote: originally, I donated escher.d.o because we had no
Alpha-buildd for half a year or so (faure and lully were
broken). It helped building packages, faure and lully were
resurrected and then escher was turned into a normal devel-machine
