aboot and kernel 2.4.xx

I have an AlphaServer 1000A Model 5/400 that I work on at school. It
currently has Woody installed and is using kernel 2.2.20. I want to
upgrade to 2.4.xx and I DL'd and installed the package with apt-get. I
then added a line to /etc/aboot.conf pointiong to the new kernel and
with initrd=/boot/initrd.img. When it boots, however, I get insmod
errors. I am guessing that I have something wrong concerning the
initrd.

Can anyone give me the correct parameters for /etc/aboot.conf to load a
2.4.xx kernel?

That machine is at school and I am at home, so I don't have the exact
errors available. Since we are on break, right now, I am not sure if I
can even get into the computer lab to work on it, but I hope that I can.

Any help will be appreciated.
