Did you try to use the debian installers ? http://lyre.mit.edu/~powell/compaq/First I was told to go and fetch libots from Compaq. phil@megaspaz:deb$ sudo dpkg --install libots_2.2.7-2_alpha.deb Can't open ./libots-2.2.7-2.alpha.rpm: No such file or directory at -e line 4. Couldn't extract the rpm, aborting You can set $TMPDIR if /tmp is not an option dpkg: error processing libots (--install): subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1 Errors were encountered while processing: libotsphil@megaspaz:deb$ ls ./libots-2.2.7-2.alpha.rpm./libots-2.2.7-2.alpha.rpm
The installer didn't prompt you for a directory for the RPMs?Try: "dpkg-reconfigure --priority=low debconf" and make sure your priority is decent ("critical" or lower, okay, just about any priority should work), and your frontend is sane (e.g. slang requires some packages to be installed, dialog or text should work fine). Then when installing the .deb, it should prompt you for the dir where the RPM is, and you should be good to go; this will do a lot of helpful things which aliening an RPM doesn't.
BTW, Helge, which of the installer packages are out of date? Could you file a bug against the appropriate one? Thanks.
