Hi,
this looks like an alpha problem. Would you please try the latest unstable
php4-cgi to see if it works.
/usr/bin/php4 should wait for input. if not, there's a bug. I've encountered
it so far on my i386 2.4.0-ac4 but on friends 2.4.0 it works and on another
computer with 2.2.13. So I suspect it's a kernel issue.

The bug is probably triggered by

ioctl(0, TCGETS, 0xbfffe79c)            = -1 EBADF (Bad file descriptor)
 - no go
ioctl(0, TCGETS, {B38400 opost isig icanon echo ...}) = 0
 - OK
