Lastest *working* kernel? / NCR vs SYMBIOS

Hi all;

What's that latest *working* 2.2.x kernel on Alpha? I just tried 2.2.9 but it croaks at boot with:

"Request_module [block-major-8]: Root fs not mounted
VFS: Cannot open root device 08:06
Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 08:06"

The same boot command (boot sda6:/boot/vmlinuz-X.X.X root=/dev/sda6) works with slinks stock 2.0.36 kernel.

Also, should I use the NCR or SYMBIOS driver for the onboad SCSI? I had been using the NCR in the 2.0.x
kernels, but have had stablity problems on my other system and was told to use the symbios one!?!

The system in question:
AlphaStation 200 4/233
64MB RAM (I know, get more...)
2 x 2GB SCSI-2 HDD's
Sony Spressa 960 (SCSI-2 CDR)
DEC TZ87 (SCSI-2 tape drive)
UMAX Astra 1200S (SCSI-2 scanner)
Debian GNU/Linux 2.1

TIA,

Ron
