I only have this problem when trying to do 24 bits, 16 bits works OK (if
you avoid things like xcrystal :-).

Not enough to hold up the release, I think. Most people who want to use
Linux on Alpha won't be doing that much compiling, and they're stuck
with the buggy compilers on RH anyway, so why not let them try debian
instead?

I'm running 2.0.36pre2 non-stop for ten days now, no problems.

I'm using the ISDN stuff in the 2.0.36pre2 without problems.

That's a good one.

Of course, I think Alpha's aren't often used just for networking;
their CPU performance put them into a different market segment.
Use the old, otherwise obsolete 486's for gatewaying etc...
Hmm, just remembered you might want ipfwadm to secure your system. OK.
BTW, I read something on a dutch mailing list about problems with RH 5.1
and ipfwadm (invalid argument with setsockopt, sound familiar?). He
solved his problem by going to the RH 5.0 ipfwadm package...

I don't think so. If Red Hat dare to ask money for their current Alpha
release, we can release Debian/Alpha 2.1 for free without feeling guilty
:-)
