I built a 2.0.35 kernel on faure from the 2.0.35 source and the DEC
patches, copies it to a boot floppy and voila, dselect is happily
installing on my UDB.  So, it looks like the floppies (or at least the
generic one) needs to be rebuilt with an updated kernel.  Is this
something we can do on faure?
