I agree!  I have been unable to do anything with the later egcs packages!

The proposal to simply replace `-O2' with `-O' is also interesting but
requires a lot more testing, IMO; furthermore it should really be an alpha
patch to the actual egcs package...

I'm all for the "stable cc but experimental c++" line of things.  I assume
Christopher is working with egcs 1.0.3a?
