newbie question - installing Linux/Alpha on AlphaPC 164lx
hi !
last night i tried to install Linux Debian port to Alpha and i have now
some qustions about installation process :) (hmm, and that is my first
step on Alphas, so don't be angry for lame questions :)
first thing i made was replacing AlphaBIOS to SRM console. maybe this
step is wrong, so there is a question - how to change back to AlphaBIOS ?
i used latest milo.dd (i forgot where i found but works fine :),
resc1440.bin drv1440.bin root1440.bin founded on
http://lhpca.univ-lyon1.fr/axp/debian.html
and i can boot linux, but system is unable to probe network card (poor
NE2000 compatible - ISA). Without network i can't install, because i
want to use NFS installation (or FTP if it is possible). Should I pass
some parameteres to kernel in lilo ? what kind of parameters ?
(i start from MILO by boot fd0:linux root=/dev/fd0 load_ramdisk=1)
in starting messages kernel returns info about probing port 0x300 for
NE*000 card, and says that is unable to find IRQ for card. after
installation i cant find antything in /proc about network card.
what about differences between Linux-Alpha released by redhat ?
i tried to find some docs about installation process, but they
had mixed documentation from different platforms - so is hard
to find good step-to-step install guide.
i get from debian only trees /debian/dists/sid/main/binary-alpha
and /debian/dists/sid/mail/disks-alpha. is it all necesary
to install debian, or maybe i need something more ?
regards
GiZu
ps. i forgot about hardware info :)
as i said in subject: AlphaPC 164lx with Alpha 61124/533MHz
128 RAM, IDE 1.7 GB, S3 Virge, NE2000 clone network card
