Re: What do you think?

Am I the only one that thinks that the Alpha dpkg is really messed up?

I am constantly getting errors like this:

-- snip --
Preparing to replace libgtk-dev 1:1.0.5-1.1 (using libgtk-dev_1.0.6-1.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement libgtk-dev ...
dpkg: error processing libgtk-dev_1.0.6-1.deb (--unpack):
unable to chown backup symlink for `usr/lib/libglib.so': No such file or directory
dpkg-deb: subprocess paste killed by signal (Broken pipe)
Preparing to replace gdk-imlib-dev 1.7-2.1 (using gdk-imlib-dev_1.8.1-0.1.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement gdk-imlib-dev ...
dpkg: error processing gdk-imlib-dev_1.8.1-0.1.deb (--unpack):
unable to chown backup symlink for `usr/lib/libgdk_imlib.so': No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
 libgtk-dev_1.0.6-1.deb
 gdk-imlib-dev_1.8.1-0.1.deb
E: Sub-process returned an error code
-- snip --

The only way I have been able to fix these is like this:

dpkg-deb -x foo.deb /
dpkg -i foo.deb

This is the only real problem I've had with the Alpha, but it's
been persistent and annoying, especially when doing large upgrades.
Does anyone know what's wrong? (I have dpkg 1.4.0.24 at the moment)

Thanks!

Jeff

P.S. Otherwise, Debian/Alpha looks to be in good shape. The install disks
need a lot of work, but most of it is long-term stuff and doesn't need to
happen for this release. Hopefully I'll find some time to help with that.
