Did you build it with "-rpath /usr/X11R6/lib/Xaw3d," as is stated in the
package description?  On the system here, I moved the Xaw3d files to
/usr/X11R6/lib/Xaw3d (with dpkg-divert) and modified /etc/ldso.conf so I
wouldn't have to use Xaw3d (I didn't like the look).  However, when I run
your just updated version of gv, I get:

  gv: error in loading shared libraries
  libXaw3d.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

(This is still much better than a seg-fault, though...)

It's true that Xaw3d isn't in the normal ldso search path, but according
to the description, gv should be able to find it...
