Re: Volume control on debian system? (Was: Bug#985666: alsa-utils: no sound after installation)

Hi, Yes using the shortcut keys works just fine.  So you are saying that when espeakup controls the speech alsa mixers can not be used anymore as I find that if I use amixer or alsamixer and change the volume settings espeakup's main volume is changed and the speakup shortcut keys only will raise the volume to the maximum setting for that volume that I set in alsamixer or amixer?  Nick Gawronski

That's exactly my point: I can make the speakup shortcut be able to just
raise the volume to the maximum that the hardware supports. But then

you cannot tune it with a mixer any more since espeakup will try to

So the question is raised: are people fine with the volume *granularity*
that the speakup shortcut provide ?

Please answer the specific question I ask, otherwise we can't progress.
