Re: Updating w.d.o/{intro/organization#distribution,ports/}

Hi Britt,
I have a apple 68k mac (centris 610) that works and if I can get debian 68k
on it id be glad to help port things. Other than that I have a bunch of x86
stuff...
The x86 stuff (with ARAnyM emulator) is likely to be more helpful than any real m68k hardware in getting packages built and bugs fixed.

That said, the Mac will still be useful to test any packages built on the emulator systems. It's just too slow for the compile workload (but then, so was a 80 MHz 68060).

I'd like to commend Thorsten for the terrific job he's done on not just building current packages but also fixing bugs and digging into our long festering toolchain issues. The port is in a lot better shape than it has been for a long time. And I'm not forgetting Stephen who fought hard to keep the port alive before him.

I've long been short on hacking time - ever since moving to NZ in fact. At this stage I cannot commit to much port work with just a Powerbook and the Falcon to work with. I will try and help Christian get his Falcon back online in the next months but that in itself won't solve the main (hacking time) problem. Even given enough hacking time I'd still need to be brought up to speed with the current tools and methods used (i.e. is anyone still running buildd, is there a build database, what's the current best way to set up a build chroot environment). In other words, I'd be pretty much in the same boat as anyone else starting from scratch.

So it looks like we're looking for fresh volunteers - any more takers? Would you be willing to give new hands a few hints to get started, Thorsten?

Cheers,

 Michael

I’m looking for the m68k porters myself. I’m not able to continue
this on my own (nor did I initially intend to). Also, since the
freeze is nearing, it’s been getting harder to get any patches in,
especially into the toolchain. Or support from maintainers. Also,
I’m getting short on hacking time. So please, porters, speak up.

David: you got the list name wrong, see header for the correct one.

bye,
