Unreasonable? Maybe... PDF viewers have almost certainly bloated since
early Acrobat as the format grew. But in fairness, unless these programs
are functionally equivalent, the comparison is a bit meaningless. You may
be able to find a more basic pdf viewer? (I'd give gv a shot if you
haven't already. I can't say I've tried it under etch myself...).

I am not running etch I am running Sid. I can't believe it myself,
but it is actually a good idea someone does. Perhaps I need
to put that in any and all report I make, because it is what it is.

etch-m68k is really a snapshot of testing, that was a little behind
release.

I am a little worried about running unstable because there is no
testing for falling back support. at first i tried to combine it was
etch with sid then sid with etch then just sid. maybe i was
in a hurry or some other reason. but may be that etch-m68k really
needs some updates to be useable.

anyway even in ppc etch I have had some problems with
gv and xpdf -- both of which i tried on 68k/sid, where they
have worse problems. on ppc i also use vindaloo (that is
gnustep viewpdf).

anyway like I said it is no useable really. maybe there
is tweak to make either file or reader look at earlier pdf
versions (aka acroreader was 3,4,5 adding features).
i tried the pdf2text converter it is not the best. or i could
copy pdf files to my old powerbook 540 which is where i
do most of my electronic reading and have some
debian manuals there anyway already for references since
it sits next to quadras and goes in to them w/SSH,
makes a fair terminal at that.

despite i said "maybe, eventually" to look at video DAFB I find
myself looking at it now, at least study the situation.

my 605 will not start X as it is without some extra VRAM. this
should probably not be, but is the current state of it. Reason:
I can get macos in 640x480 at 67 or 60 hz or 800x600 at 56hz
but in any of those three cases even with setting kernel param
vmode appropriately fbi tells me i am in 73 or 75 hz mode and
will not change it but X tells me it needs to change (like X know
I am really in what i set from macos but the information is
not passed correctly). I think if i put in the xtra vram i should be
able to go X in 1024x768-8bit@75. (It boots in 4bit now, but
X won't go with that). or I could try and modify some source
to set the hz correctly...

does my description make sense to you all. or do I need
to cut and paste the error texts...
