hey, wait, what about the EMILE rescue disc ??? (need to learn mknod / chroot)
(or if you have one "ready" of course your bootable EMILE install CD,
which also could come in very handy if you ever wish to reorganize
storage nondestructively, as you will find parted to be available in the
installer shell)
