i have the same problem with my system, this is how i got round it-
when you select certain packages ( like X windows ) from aptitude ( or
dselect ) it automatically selects certain other required packages for
installation, (you will remeber installing things on your amiga and finding
you need to download xxx.library before you can run it) u can then unselect
these packages by hand until the download is a size you can reasonablty
download in one go (2hrs in my case). and then reselect the rest and
download them. in any case apt can handle the situation where all the
required files arent dowqnloaded in one go and will automatically set the
failed ones for download next time u set it going
