Adding to Christian's advice to report kernel build problems to
linux-m68k, a list of information to include:

- what kernel version are you attempting to build?

- where did you download the source?

- what version of compiler and binutils do you use?

- what is the compiler error message you get?

If you use the correct source, and a supported compiler, your failure to
build the kernel is a problem that needs to be addressed by the m68k
kernel maintainer. I don't think Jes considers 2.2 unstable, he probably
is just too lazy/overworked to build preconfigured kernels. He'd probably
be happy if someone else could do that.

You know how to build a kernel-image package? Amazing. That's another item
in the 'jobs needing volunteers' list.

BTW 4 potato will have 2.2 kernels, if it ever ships.
