I told you this wouldn't work, and even if it did, the debs produced
would be FUBAR. You need to apply the m68k patches which Mark still
hasn't applied despite having had them since 2.x.x. (or something)
(Oh, yeah and the patches are buggy and out of date, too)

sgml2* is hosed because nsgmls is hosed. See the web page[1].

Should be Architecture: any, not all.

A lot of i386 maintainers don't RTFM and put the wrong thing in the
Architecture: field, it's probably a bug, I certainly know nothing
i386-specific about Amaya (it works on Solaris/Sparc for example).

Bug.

Been there, done that, don't know how to fix it offhand.

Install xviewg{,-dev}.

Requiring user interaction to build is a bug (see #14313). I'm filing
a bug against afterstep.

No, nsgmls problem.

 16789 ftp.debian ftp.debian.org: qps depends on non-free library

I'm going to a) update my web page[2], and b) add all the ``should be
in non-free'' packages to a local Packages-arch-specific file for
quinn diff and send it to you.
