Re: Details for our 2nd BoF room

Benjamin Somers dijo [Wed, Jun 18, 2025 at 08:09:48PM +0200]:
We have too many talks with good rating, and in the Content team we decided
to convert one more room for BoF scheduling. This extra, fourth parallel
room is _not_ going to have video coverage, but we were discussing that
some BoF sessions count on having some remote participation.

I thought you already had 2 BoF rooms, one filmed and one not filmed. Am I
missing something?

Right. Well, some days ago we were working with the idea of having two talk
auditoriums and one BoF room, everything filmed. We had to add this second,
unfilmed BoF room. You are already aware then, and I'm happy for that.

So, our question is: For the 2nd, non-video-covered BoF room: Can we set up
a system for making a best-effort videoconf setting? This is, we would
need:

- A computer where a presentation can be made from
- With an external microphone, which we can locate close to the
loudspeaker, or that can "decently" pick up the ambient sound
- With external loudspeakers so that BoF attendees can follow what remote
 participants say

So, local team: Can this be arranged?

Doesn’t seem like a local team issue to me, more a video team one.
If it’s really a local team issue, it’s pretty low on my priority queue;
we may find the right hardware but I’m not owning the issue.

We are not looking for videoteam to provide or care about this room. This
is a request by us, Content Team, mostly to the Local Team. Why? Because we
don't have any kind of hardware. And because many BoF submitters will
rightfully assume they can invite their non-attending teams. We only need a
computer with a half-decent audio setup that can be operated to join a
Jitsi session (probably by a talkmeister; I doubt this room will have more
videoteam coverage than that).

Hope our request is clearer.
