[Debconf-team] Question to Montreal Team: Prices for lodging

>Hi,

Hi! Thanks for the questions! Sometimes it is not easy to see what is clear
and what is not to others when you are working closely on things.

For McGill, when it is the same price for a single room and a double room,
the price is indeed per room and not per bed. It seems weird (double = more
beds), but meh, that's how it is.
Double rooms always include two beds. This means that if we use double rooms,
we can halve the price per person.

>If that's the case, converting to USD (assuming the prices are in
>CAD), the prices per person per room would be:
>La Citadelle: 57 USD
>Carrefour Sherbrooke: 52 USD
>New Residence Hall: 43 USD
>Royal Victoria College: 31 USD (double), 27 USD (triple)

Yes, all prices are in CAD. We did not convert it in other currencies
because the magic of monetary markets can make prices fluctuate a lot
on short periods.
Royal Victoria College does seem to be the cheapest solution. One solution
you have not mentionned is Bishop Mountain Hall, with similar prices but
for single rooms (and no wifi).

>The first three seem quite high for the prices we are used to paying
>during DebConf, while the last one is more similar but still high
>(taking into account that it doesn't include food). Do you know how
>many beds we can get on each of these?

We are still waiting more detailed answers on this. Please note
that (as stated on the wiki) all prices listed are regular ones. I'm pretty
sure that if we rent 150 double rooms we can get lower prices.

Again, the prices are the regular ones. Maybe we can get group prices.

>Normally, we try hard to aim to have a price of per person per night

Sadly, I don't think we can get cheaper prices than McGill's anywhere
in Montreal. We are still looking, but I would be really surprised if
we did. Notice that even considering regular prices we can reach the 30USD
expections at Mcgill's Royal Victoria College residence, which is 74,75 CAD
(double) and 97,75 CAD (triple).

>The Concordia Venue seems very much not-done. Do you still think we
>should consider it? Would we get better rates there?

Indeed, we're working on this and should have news very soon.

Bests,

NB: I was not yet on the list when the first email was sent. Sorry if this email gets placed in a new thread...
