Re: [Debconf-team] Fwd: san juan del sur NOT managua

I've just subscribed to these lists, there is something of a backlog
awaiting moderator approval.

I'm going to basically assume that I can help a bit on the conference
itself, which will be in Managua, and help out on visitors to SJDS,
those that want to vacation a little and see more of the country.

That said, I'll plug my fav town a little bit more below.

Food & Accommodation would not be a problem, or so I think. On the
high end, there's pelican eyes in addition to villas de palermo, as
well as a large-but-often-closed place in remanso... and on the lower
end, all sorts of accommodation down to several excellent hostels such
as

The place absorbed the survivor team fairly well.

conference facilities is tougher... from a random walk perspective
there would be numerous rooms/spaces around a 7 block area in town
that could be used. I'm not terribly familiar with the insides of the
two big hotels mentioned - just the pools!

As for handicaps - I've only seen one wheelchair lift in my time down
there. HOWEVER - it's perfectly safe to walk in the center of the
street most of the time, and I have a paraplegic friend there that
manages well. This is not a first world country - also lacking in most
places are things like air conditioning. And things like the water and
electric fail on a regular basis.

As for bandwidth, there's plenty, spread around in nearly every hotel,
restauarant and cafe. It's the latency that gets people, not the
bandwidth. There is a long time between click and response - the
nearest F-root dns server is 80ms away, as one example - redwood city,
california 140ms away...

I will ping a few people that live in or near managua to see what help
can be had there. And

Well, I am contacting you now. :) I'll be in europe through late
December, but was planning on a few months back in SJDS after
Christmas...
