We have a cable coming in an upstairs window in the main talk room, so
it's up on the balcony, on the right hand side (from the audience's
point of view)

The cable is long enough so that we could put any equipment on the other
side of the door that leads to the spiral staircase that is in the wings
of the stage.

I've installed an OpenRD on the cable for now, which has an IP address
of:

  78.28.140.3

The default route is via:

  78.28.140.1

I am told that this is a /22, and that we have that to allocate as we
please (although they'd prefer that we not simply assign real IP to
people's laptops, as they're a little concerned about people running
torrents)

There's no IPv6

Whatever is on the other end is gigabit kit -- so that's good.

> ** Can you establish a connection?

Yup -- the only issue I've noticed is that inbound port 22 is filtered,
so we are behind some form of firewall -- I can check what else is
blocked if this causes concern.

I can download from cdimages.d.o at about 220Mbit/s (sometimes dropping
to 100)

Seems good so far.

There are three rooms on a corridor on the lefthand side of the building
on the ground floor that will make a decent server room, video team
store, and admin room. The video kit is in one of them already.

It seems that it should be easy to get the network link from where it
arrives across the building to these rooms by going back-stage (although
I've not seen the complete route yet, but I'd be seriously surprised if
there's a problem)

BTW I seems that this was the room that Holger envisaged being the
server room when he was here.

I've scribbled a map -- I think it'll be a bit of a waste of time
worrying about the details until you get to see it with your own eyes.

The only slight issue at the moment is deciding how we get from the
server room to the hacklabs, but I'm pretty sure that we can either go
out of the window, or use a bit more cable and go along the balcony in
the main talk room -- there are a couple of other potential routes that
I've not checked out yet, so I'm confident one of these will be fine.

There's a concert grand on the stage -- probably best if we ensure that
nobody tries to fix that though ;-)

OK, so that's one issue largely dealt with, so I'll replace it with
another:

* Accessibility
** There is a disabled lift in the side entrance
*** It is currently unplugged, and looks a little scruffy
*** I'll see if i can persuade them to plug it in and make
sure it looks like it'll work more than once
** Leading to the lift, there are about 5 steps, and no ramp
   (this is sub-optimal)
*** I will attempt to discover when the lift was last used, and whether
they have a movable ramp hiding in the basement (they all seemed a
bit clueless about it yesterday). If they don't have a ramp, I
guess we're going to need to build one
*** When does the first wheelchair arrive?
*** does anyone have nice references to building recommendations for ramp
design? ... maximum slope, minimum width, minimum width at turning
points, railing recommendations, that sort of thing
** Lift to get up to the hacklabs on the 1st floor (or floor 2 for
those of you that start at 1) -- I'm guessing there is one, but I
   don't remember seeing it -- I'll look

Cheers, Phil.
