Well, someone did post site news:

  Nov 2008: DebConf9 dates decided: July 16-31

so the dates are out.

I hope someone has experience and time to put a proper
content-management system in place, one that allows us to do edits
in one place, avoid redundancy, and ideally get a publication
workflow.

Even though I am experienced with Plone, I doubt our sysadmins will
install it, and I wouldn't want to use it anyway, to be honest. I am
looking forward to learning Django, but that's far away.

In the mean time, maybe someone else from the press team could
update http://debconf.org/press/ with the DC8 press releases.

I am too swamped for the moment. I might be able to get the press
release written tomorrow on the plane or on Thursday, but I cannot
promise. If you could step in, please do.

the irony is that bill gates claims to be making a stable operating
system and linus torvalds claims to be trying to take over the world.
