Hi And now my first draft of the Edinburgh text. Edinburgh ========= All pictures are available behind https://gallery.debconf.org/jjedivenue - Im only linking the few ones here in this text that help to understand it, to not make it too unreadable. As it was Weekend when we walked around EDI we couldnt get into all places, so one of them I only have impressions from the outside and the pictures Moray took, which are behind the various other entries at https://gallery.debconf.org/Edinburgh - i link them in for every option. Option 1 - Physicians College ============================= https://gallery.debconf.org/RCPE We could not get in here, but they seem to have Weddings and other not-that-small events there, and looking at the pictures space is ok. The biggest problem with this location is that weelchairs need to get in on the backside, and there is a very bad cobbled street, so you basically need a car to go to that backside entrance. Option 2 - Teviot ================= https://gallery.debconf.org/Teviot The Teviot[1] is a building run by the student union. Entrance for weelchair people is via a lift[2] at the outside, and there is also a lift and toilets for disabled people inside, so this is fine. It is an old building having a variety of large[3] and small[4] rooms[5] that we can use for talks, hacklabs and Bofs. Right now they are working[6] in some parts of the building. Sleeping places would be a few minutes to walk away. The parts of the building we would use surround a courtyard[10], the only venue here having this directly attached. They are used to changing the location, so we shouldnt have a problem setting up whatever we want/need. The canteen[11] is on the right side of the courtyard, rooms that we can use are at the top side[12] (behind the trucks on the picture). [7] https://gallery.debconf.org/jjedivenue/dscn3097 [8] https://gallery.debconf.org/jjedivenue/dscn3098 [9] https://gallery.debconf.org/jjedivenue/dscn3099 [10] https://gallery.debconf.org/jjedivenue/dscn3105 [11] https://gallery.debconf.org/jjedivenue/dscn3103 [12] https://gallery.debconf.org/jjedivenue/dscn3104 Conclusion ========== Looking at the venues and having seen two of them my personal favourite in Edinburgh is Option 3, the Art College, followed by 2, Teviot. All 3 options do not have the sleeping places directly attached, but that is no problem - if we do not provide network at the sleeping places people will just go to the venue and meet there, so no splitup. And having people going there once in the morning and once in the evening is also no problem, if the rest is all in one place. I personally do not like Option 1, maybe because we couldnt get in, but also the above mentioned problems with the backside entrance, so comparing 2 and 3 my top candidate in Edinburgh is the Art College. It has the lecture halls, canteen and also hacking rooms all near each other surrounding the courtyard. The Teviot has a nice atmosphere with its very old building, but the next good outside location is a street away, so it lost against option 2. The Teviot doesnt seem to like the long opening hours a DebConf wants, the local team needs to recheck that with both, Teviot and Art College, as it doesnt make much sense to close a DebConf venue at (say) eleven. -- bye Joerg Ich will ein anderes Telefon, das hier klingelt immer!
