[Debconf-discuss] Debconf runners: report from the Aug 2nd run to GWB

In short, going to George Washington Bridge is a good way to have a
nice scenery view of Manhattan.

So, 8 people gathered together this morning: Marga and Maxy, Roberto
Sanchez, Iustin Pop, Tim Retout, Gaudenz Steilin, Noèl Köthe and /me.

I screwed up slightly by trying to go down to the Hudson Greenway
immediately from Riverside Av. while it is not possible until 130th
St. or so....so we ended up doing more ups and downs in the beginning,
including going through a wild path that was leading
nowhere. Apologies to fellow runners for this.

On the route to there, we unfortunately saw Marga and Maxy being
forced to wave us bye after a few kms, mostly because of this hard
start. Sorry, guys...and I hope you had fun anyway, as well as some
nice views of Hudson River.

The remaining 6 of us then went along the Greenway north to
GWB. Thankfully, Noèl already went there and he could sort out the
tricky labyrinth of streets to climb up to the bridge and then enter
the walway along the road.

Though quite noisy because of those damn cars, the view from the
bridge is quite awesome as one can see the entire Western part of
Manhattan up to the southmost part.

IMHO, that view is probably great at night. Can be a good place to go
on evenings after sunset by going north in train 1 up to 175th St then
walk 1 mile or 2 west through 177th St..

We crossed the bridge then....went back..:-)

We apparently all managed to come back safe from this trip to Wild
Northern Manhattan and ended up having run something like 17km,
according to Noèl's Garmin (mine was driving me crazy by contantly
rebooting and didn't record anything...crap).

Tomorrow's run is likely to feature a visit to Central Park,
again. Slow pace and shorter distance will be the rule. Reaching the
Reservoir will be the goal, to enjoy the great NYC scenery from there...

PS: Noèl and I might have crazy ideas for the Day Trip. Going to Coney
Island by running seems to be a *too crazy* idea (the distance is
over 20 miles)....but goign down Manhattant to Brooklyn Bridge, cross
it over and then catch a train there should be feasible.:)
