The Finnish law is actually quite clear that copying for personal use is
allowed. There is no requirement that the copy from which the copies
are made are "original" or even legal copies. The only requirements are
that the use is personal, that the work has been published, and that the
copies made are not used for anything else than personal use.

What is not clear is how many copies one can make of a work for private
use (the law says "muutama" 'a few') and what is personal use.
Conventional wisdom says that personal use should be interpreted
narrowly, but it includes at least sharing with one's immediate family.

There is, however, a bill that would change this, effectively requiring
the possession of a legal copy for making the private use copies.

IANAL :)
