Hi,

This year I had to be involved in some visa-related situations for
South Americans coming to Mexico. I know every country is different,
but this might help you.

We had two Colombians. One was formally invited by one of the
country's largest universities. We sent _all_ of the paperwork with
several weeks in advance to the Mexican embassy in Bogotá (and to the
consulate in Medellín, his hometown). Paperwork was dramatic, we
escalated the thing several levels in Mexico's Foreign Relations
ministry... Two days before the conference, the visa was granted.

The other Colombian went by himself to the Mexican embassy. He said he
wanted to come as a tourist. No papers were requested except for the
plane ticket. One week (and no hassle) later, he had the visa in his
hands.

So... Make sure the best way to travel for you is the official
way. Maybe you'd rather spend some vacations in Finland...

Greetings,
