$>dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/dvd INQUIRY: [PLEXTOR ][DVDR PX-750A ][1.02] GET [CURRENT] CONFIGURATION: Mounted Media: 1Ah, DVD+RW READ TRACK INFORMATION[#1]: Track State: complete incremental Track Start Address: 0*2KB Free Blocks: 0*2KB Fixed Packet Size: 16*2KB Track Size: 2295104*2KB* growisofs DVD+RW : fail with message --- :-[ WRITE@LBA=0h failed with SK=5h/ASC=30h/ACQ=05h]: Wrong medium type :-( media is not formatted or unsupported. :-( write failed: Wrong medium type
Note that READ TRACK indicates "complete incremental" and even reports "fixed packet size." This is what you commonly see with DVD-RW media formatted for Restricted Overwrite, never with DVD+RW. In DVD-RW case these values are commonly affected by so called Page 05/Write Parameters Mode settings, *but* MMC specification explicitly states that DVD+RW should *not* be affected by this Page 05. Naturally there is possibility that your unit firmware does look at it and finds parameters unsuitable for DVD+RW and signals 5/30/05... Can you re-run growisofs, so that it fails with same error and *then* collect verbose dvd+rw-mediainfo output by issuing 'dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/dvd verbose'? This will expose even Page 05 settings... A.
