Why should you get wrong values except when the drives firmware is broken?

I cannot see any difference....
If this really has been made with a > 6x certified medium, then
the firmware of your drive is broken. Cdrecord asks the drive
for the maximum write speed and later uses this value.
It the drive really returns wrong values, you are lost.
