Yes. After the kernel panicked for a few times, I immediately
did a Google search about the problem. The problem was already
reported several times, and in a kernel developer's list I
read that this problem was already known to Linux developers
but will never get fixed.

I don't think the problem is obscure at all; anyone who has a
need of (or used to need and got into the habit of) burning
HFS+ISO9660 hybrid CD's for Mac users and use ide-scsi (as
opposed to ATAPI) would get into trouble. The problem, if I
remember correctly, is that the a kernel rewrite during 2.3.x
caused Linux to panic when the sector size of a CDROM mounted
through ide-scsi is not a certain standard size, Linux
developers did not consider fixing ide-scsi a high priority
and the HFS driver was unmaintained.

I could not come up with the right keywords.  I'll try again
later today to provide more details.)
