As the drive is not in restricted overwrite mode, this error code is illegal.

But to make sure, it is not related to the problem, please make a test
with DVD+R (sorry but this may again cost you a medium because the DVD+
people won't allow a simulation mode for DVD+)  and add the option "ts=32k"
to the cdrecord command line.

As I did never see such a message myself, it is still more likely that
the problem is related to missing DMA and a firmware problem that
results in wrong errors, but you never know.....
