Second: you did use a DVD+R medium.
Please let us start with a DVD-RW medium.
This is cheaper and make it easier to get closer to the problem.

Make sure you did enable DMA. You may need to chenge two places in order to get
DMA!
It is most likely a DMA problem:
This write failed approx. at the number of bytes that fit into the Drive's
buffer (1.5 MB) and with the SONY you have the same problem (this unit has ~ 4 MB
buffer)
