Re: OPC error with Plextor PX-712A

Now on my third DVD recorder, hopefully this one will last... Anyways, got a slight prob here as it refuses to burn any DVDs exiting with ":-[ PERFORM OPC failed with SK=5h/ASC=27h/ACQ=00h]: Input/output error".

5/27/00 stands for "WRITE PROTECTED" (see http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/keys.txt for transcripts). It makes no sense [to me]...

Its known good media and the same disc, one -R and one -RW, works with Nero6. Thats the part that I dont get because as far as I can tell OPC is done by the drive on demand by the burner app,

That is correct, "Perform OPC" is pure firmware domain.

so why does it work in Nero but not with dvd+rw tools?

Beats me too. Can you try to modify growisfs_mmc.cpp to skip OPC whatsoever? E.g. by adding 'return 0;' prior "// See if OPC is required..." line. Does recording start and proceed then? A.
