Thanks John.  That made me try again, but a bit harder this time. I now
have mysql working on stable an wheezy with my old databases.  Sid is in
the works as it has to do with a password misunderstanding which i
need to fix.

Thanks for the 'kick' as it was I should have done to myself!!
