I always have to use Ctrl+Alt to get out, I had forgot about this, you
are right when it is installed you can move the pointer out
automatically.

No, BUT; I chose to use FAT32 instead of NTFS because of a job I need to
do that needs FAT32. I don't know if this could make any difference.

I really don't know. Just a few weeks ago I made a similar install in RH
7.2 and I was really impressed how well it went. Before I decided to
install Debian I asked on this list if VmWare 3.1.1 would run on it and
got only positive replies.
