J'ai déjà un LANG positionné sur en_US.iso88591 (et exporté).
Il semble que la variable LANGUAGE soit une extension de la glibc:

et cette variable semble prioritaire sur LANG (ce qui n'est pas
étonnant pour qu'elle soit utile). Mais son fonctionnement est pour
le moins étrange, car fr était prioritaire sur en, même s'il venait
après. C'est peut-être un bug...

Et puis elle n'est pas prise en compte sur mes autres machines Debian,
qui ont pourtant une glibc plus récente.
