Surtout quand l'ignorant c'est moi. Cela dit j'avoue que je ne comprends
plus. Partons du principe que la licence (avec un c) est dans la
distribution (obligatoire). Le fichier
/usr/doc/tetex-base/copyright
indique que par défaut, tout est sous GPL mais que certain paquet ont leur
propre licence. Bien!
Je regarde le début de plain.tex:

Ces deux dernières phrases me rendent rêveur...
la dernière ligne est

donc c'est bien le format standard actuel.
Bon, je charge les source de TeX, et je regarde:

Il n'y a pas tex.c.
Cela veut dire que le tetex de la distribution n'est pas le tex de Knuth
mais une version légèrement modifiée. Bon, on regarde le fichier tex.ch

on s'aperçoit d'ailleurs qu'il y a des fichiers .ch0 .ch1 .ch2 etc. (Le
makefile doit être remarquable). Donc la distribution répond aux critères
du libre mais n'est pas GPL, compilateur compris, et que leur licence est
est fait à peu de chose près la licence LaTeX.
Voilà.
Ca devrait clore le débat (surtout qu'on est Dimanche)
